Jail those violating PCPNDT Act: Chhaya Mishra
Patna: Advocate, Chhaya Mishra of Patna High Court on Tuesday requested the state government to enforce the Pre_ conception and Pre_ Natal diagnostic techniques (prevention) Act,1994 Mrs Chhaya Mishra,a firmer joint secretary of the Advocates Association, reacting to a extensively covered report in the leading multinational Hindi daily,Dainik Bhaskar, regretted the provisions of the act were not being followed by the nursing homes.The 1994 law provides for penalty of Rs 50,000 and jail term of three years. the courts have not sent any violator to jail
Supreme Court in 2013 had directed all states to effectively enforce the act It violates the dignity of women and reflects bias against female to encourage female foeticide.Mrs Mishra requested the chief minister and health minister to act on the reports in Bhaskar ,seal the nursing homes, cancel the licences of doctors concerned, arrest them and prosecute them in designated courts.
